Formalities

Legal Requirements

It is advisable to book your marriage celebrant as soon as you set a date for your wedding. Once this is done we can arrange to meet to complete the necessary paperwork and show you a selection of ceremonies - you may wish to take away some copies of ceremonies to decide at your leisure. I will also show you some books on ceremonies which have a selection of readings to choose from. At this meeting we can discuss how the ceremony proceeds and answer any questions you may have.

The wedding ceremony must be witnessed by two people over the age of 18 years. Should you be in the process of bringing your partner from overseas to be married, I can supply you with a letter for Immigration.

To marry in Australia you need to complete a Notice of Intended Marriage at least one month and one day prior to the wedding date - I have these forms. This form is valid for 18 months.

You will need to show the marriage celebrant a Birth Certificate if Australian born or a Passport if born outside Australia. If either party has been previously married you will need to produce your Decree Absolute (divorce papers from the Court) or a death certificate if a previous spouse is deceased.
