When I was originally appointed a celebrant I was given an exemption from saying The Monitum in my ceremonies (Marriage according to law in Australia is the union of a man and a woman…………..). In 2004 when John Howard was the Prime Minister he changed all this. So since then I have had to include The Monitum in every ceremony. For many many years I have offered my couples some wording to state they do not agree with this statement and hope the law would be changed in Australia to allow any two people to marry.
On Saturday I had thee weddings and each couple wanted me to make this statement on their behalf. At the third wedding I even go a clap from the entire crowd of guests before the bride and groom exchanged vows. It is time this ridiculous law is changed.#sydneycelebrant, marriage
